Manitou System Manager (MSM)

The Manitou System Manager (MSM) application allows users to start and stop the Manitou services that make up the Manitou system.  Each Manitou service has a specific purpose to focus on specific tasks and elements of Manitou.  Services, with the exception of Broker and Sentry, may be distributed across multiple servers.

MSM

The Manitou System Manager (MSM), in most cases, resides on the physical server running Manitou.  Each Server has its own configuration of which server is primary and which is standby to prevent potential database corruption.   There are some operations that have a "start only" version of the MSM, on a workstation accessible within the alarm operations.  This is a rarely used feature.

Each service running in the MSM displays in green.  Any service not running displays with a Red icon.

Best Practices

Services and items that should be running in order for a monitoring company to receive and process signals:

  • MS SQL Server - Without the database, there is no data to allow processing.
  • Broker, Sentry, Application Server - These items allow access to the licensing and applications.
  • FEP, Marshaller, Signal Handler - These items communicate with the Receivers and process signals into Manitou.
  • Overdue Checker - This ensures that On Test items return to full service when they expire, reminders trip when appropriate, as well as schedules monitored are tracked appropriately.

All other services support the features outside of primary alarm monitoring.
